Where does it hurt?

Nigeria,
Where does it hurt?

Is it in your shoulders?
That carry the weight of broken promises, nursed from generation to generation?

Or in your feet?
The ache of standing in queues to vote, of outrunning the machine gun bullets of brute soldiers sent to silence you?

Or in your heart?
Where you have prayed and hoped and believed against all hope and, yet, here you are?

Or in your throat?
Muscles strained from wailing after losing child after child after child?

Nigeria,
Where does it hurt?

Everywhere.

  1. I almost shed a tear. I wish it didn't hurt anywhere. I wish you hope and light for many days.
