Lagos & You
When next I come to Lagos
To that city with the heat and the dust
That rise into the air
With the crowded streets
And gridlocked traffic
If ever I return
I am coming for the look in your eyes
The firmness of your hugs
The loudness of your laughter
The sincerity of your smile
If ever I return
I am coming for the smell of your deodorant
The sound of your voice
The warmth of your company
The familiarity of your touch
You are the only reason
I will ever return
To Lagos
To that city with the heat and the dust
That rise into the air
With the crowded streets
And gridlocked traffic
If ever I return
I am coming for the look in your eyes
The firmness of your hugs
The loudness of your laughter
The sincerity of your smile
If ever I return
I am coming for the smell of your deodorant
The sound of your voice
The warmth of your company
The familiarity of your touch
You are the only reason
I will ever return
To Lagos
I tried a few lines of extension for this piece. Didn't go so well.
ReplyDelete'Lagos' must be quiet interesting...
Nice read.
Thanks Alysyn. :) What do you mean by 'lines of extension'? Yes, Lagos is interesting, but not as interesting as the one in Lagos :)
DeleteNotice how i quoted the Lagos. so I meant the one there. Not the city.
ReplyDeleteBy extension i meant a continuation of the poem/thoughts.
