Anomaly

Who told you that your body is a comodity;
that you have to put it on display?

Who told you that boys don't cry;
that you must live as though you are on stage?
That you perform for your audience
Smile, turn your head this way,
Now that way
Be hard and tough
Loud and strong
But never
don't ever
show weakness

You,
who told you that your body is for another
To show it off
As though it is a product in a shop window
Waiting to be bought
But you are not a thing
A something
An anything

You are human

Perform for this audience
And they will walk out when you're done
Leaving you with the musty smell of a crowded room
With popcorn and sticky drops of coke clinging to the floor

Who told  you
that Life just works a certain kind of way?

It doesn't
You can be an anomaly
