2 – When Sean spoke to Kalanne (or at least tried to) #LoveStoryChallenge
Sean saw his window of opportunity when she was sitting at the
church café after service on the fifth Sunday. She had a cup of tea and a novel
open in front of her and was smiling to herself as she read, her lips moving inaudibly.
On second thought, he was content just watching her. He wondered what she was
reading, who the author of the book was, what it was about, what kind of books
she read, what kind of television shows she might watch, what kind of food she
liked. He bought himself a cinnamon roll and took a seat at a table by the
entrance of the café, where he could watch her in peace, before the youth
meeting was over and he would again have to be bundled into the men’s home van and
driven to downtown Middlesbrough, where they kept ex-convicts like him who
needed a second chance at life, and definitely needed Jesus. He looked up from
his cinnamon roll and she was suddenly walking towards him, or towards the
door, but she was looking right at him, and the shine in her eyes was gone.
“It’s rude to stare,” she said quietly, as she walked past him and out the
glass doors.
