3 – When Kalanne (finally) noticed Sean #LoveStoryChallenge
Family of Christ Church was the first church Kalanne had visited
when she first moved to Middlesbrough three years ago, and she had never left;
mainly because her mother had told her there was no perfect church and that if
they preached the gospel and lived a life that reflected it, then give them a
chance. And she had. Coming from a tedious routine in Nigeria where she had woken up at
5am every Sunday morning to get to church with her family in time for workers’
prayer meeting, then workers’ bible study, then general prayer meeting, then
general bible study (all before the service actually started at 8am), and would
return home at 7 or 8pm every Sunday (after spending three hours post-service waiting for her
mother to finish one meeting after the other, and then making visiting rounds
to one ailing widow or one newly wedded couple or a few newborns and their
families), she was definitely fine sitting through an hour and a half-long service and then quietly
heading home. Of course, her mother had plenty to say about “being a bench-warmer
in the house of the Lord,” but Kalanne was fine just observing, especially observing
that blue-eyed Scottish man from the men’s rehabilitation home who wouldn’t
stop staring at her.
