Dear Christians

Dear Christians,

Guys. The world kind of hates us. And yes, Jesus said that it would - John 15:18-19 - but this hate is not the kind of hate he was talking about. This hate comes from how hypocritical we behave.

A few examples:

1. We are rude
It's always the woman at the office who's listening to I Know Who I Am by Sinach playing from her phone on an early Monday morning that will blank you out if you utter a chirpy "Good morning" to her. She will eye you up and down as if you're interrupting a life-saving procedure. Really? You're going to be listening to gospel, disturbing people's peace but still have the time to ignore my greeting? Okay.

2. We drive like lunatics
Husband man and I were driving to Ibadan a few weeks ago and guess who was trying by all means to overtake us at a very precarious corner? A priest; dressed in his regalia with a nice gold cross hanging from his neck. I've said enough.

3. We love ourselves too much
Home girl has 734 pictures on Instagram and 730 are selfies. Why?

4. We live in a cocoon
How many church edifices have you seen with interlocked roads and nice cars beyond their giant gates, built in impoverished neigbourhoods?

5. Our mouth is too sharp
Please don't backbite, gossip, spread rumours, say unkind things about your colleagues and then invite them to your church's Holy Ghost Fire Night.

If we tried to be nice people before we are Christians, we wouldn't be so unloved by the world. Jesus didn't go scroll-bashing Simon Peter and Andrew into following him. He interacted with them and there must have been something they saw in him that compelled them to follow him. The way you behave at home and at work, how many people would be willing to follow you anywhere?

Christians, please, let try to be nice people.
