Poems in November 1.

I'm going to be doing a thing for the next few days; I'm going to dig up poems by some of my favourite poets and share them - just because that would be nice, wouldn't it?

So, to kick-start this thing, here is Won't You Celebrate With Me by Lucille Clifton (1936-2010). One word to describe Lucille's work is: magic.

1.
won't you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my one hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.
