Melancholic Poetry #4 - 34 Excuses For Why We Failed At Love by Warsan Shire

What can I say about Warsan Shire? She is, by far, one of my favourite poets. I love her work. She is a Kenyan-born Somali poet who emigrated to London at a young age, because of the war in Somalia. Warsan's poems are riddled with nostalgia and they are so poignant; you can tell that images and experiences from her past, her country most especially, are etched into her very core and these are expressed in her work. She writes about love and heartbreak, she writes about what it feels like to be an immigrant, to be raised by a single mother in a country that isn't really your own, although it is all you have known. Her work is powerful, to say the least.

This one is titled '34 Excuses For Why We Failed At Love'. It is one of my favourite by Warsan; I love it for its openness and its rawness, its realness.
Enjoy.
